Before You Buy a Solo Ad:

Solo ads are when you pay someone to email their list advertising your list (and usually your lead magnet).

If they approach you it’ll usually be an offer selling your targeted leads or clicks.
Usually you buy “clicks” and good providers will usually over deliver on clicks. It’s your job to convert the clicks.

If you want to buy solo ads there are a few important questions you must ask.
The funny thing is these are the exact same questions the old school DRM would ask when buying lists. It’s the same thing.

First crucial thing you gotta know is what niche the list is in!

No point buying clicks from someone in the cat niche when your selling dog stuff.
Second crucial thing, how was the list compiled.

Is it a list of buyers they built or is it a complied list with freebie seekers or scraped email addresses.

These two are critical things.

Then you got R.F.M.
Recency:

How long ago did they buy? If it was a week ago, gold. If it was one, two, ten years ago...

Frequency:

How often did they buy? A one off purchase or multiple times. You can work out which kinda person is likely to spend again.
Monetary:

How much did they spend. If they bought a $7 and your selling a $997 mentorship...
Then you have the solo ad seller, their reputation & how tired their list is.

You get solo Ads sellers who are adding fresh leads of buyers to their lists by selling products & you have solo ad sellers who fill their list with clicks from solo ads.

Huge difference in quality.
The rep of the seller is everything which is why list brokers exist in then DR world and by all accounts most are flakes.

You also have sellers blasting their list with ads everyday... well the subscribers be fed up of bing constantly pitched.
Like Mary Jane Rotten Crotch, the list is worn out and less likely to respond.

Anyways...

Solo Ads can be useful but do your own due diligence and test with a small click buy before scaling up.
