In 2020, MAC schools missed out on $10 million of revenue not getting to play Big Ten opponents.

Louisiana lost out on 4% of their total athletic budget not getting to play Mizzou.

Arkansas State lost $1.8 million not getting to play Michigan.
The G5 isn't breaking off; they can't.

If P5 teams decided to stop scheduling G5 opponents, G5 football would crumble, and as a result, so would most of FCS/HBCU football.
Athletic budgets are not some magical guarantee. The average G5 school got $21.7 mil in aid from their university. That's student fees, etc, maxed to the limit. Without subsidies from P5 schools, the G5 goes away.
That's what's so dismal about all of this: The P5 subsidizes the G5. A G5 playoff is really advocating for hundreds of scholarships to just up and vanish.
