LOL at all the folks who see Luke Skywalker as some tough, macho action hero who loves kicking ass and taking names; when he's always been one of the softest protagonists on any big franchise. And I mean that in the best way possible.
Sure, Luke's a resolute warrior who fought for his friends and his beliefs whenever the need arose, but he's never been one to use violence as the first solution. In the OT he was headstrong and impulsive, sure, but never trigger-happy or itching to pick fights.
Beyond that, his two lowest points in the films involved giving in to his violent and aggressive impulses, namely going berserk on Vader in ROTJ and igniting his lightsaber over a sleeping Ben Solo.
His two greatest triumphs are the exact opposite, where compassion, kindness and non-violence took over: throwing the lightsaber aside while refusing to kill his father and his last stand against the First Order, facing his failure and apologizing to his nephew.
Those are the moments that define Luke to me far more than the ones in which he defeats bad guys through martial might.
