The new variant of the virus *is* becoming dominant in London & surrounding areas said Sir Patrick Vallance. *Has* become dominant would have been more appropriate (>60%): we now discover it had a major presence in London (>20%) in mid November, and that is cause for concern.
Why? I have recently been raising questions about hospital admissions numbers, pointing out that there has been no explanation for their pattern. Thus, after a period of decline, admissions turned upwards around 27 Nov, which is odd given that cases had been falling ...
... in the previous weeks. There have not been, & still aren't, answers to those questions and the official line is that there is 'no evidence' that the variant is more harmful than other variants. But the authorities' data interrogation has been questionable throughout...
... and this looks like it might be another area where much tougher cross examination of the experts is called for. Maybe a question like this: "Isn't the strong rise in hospital admissions since 27 Nov consistent with the arrival of a new, more harmful variant of the virus?"
