I recently felt compelled to support the free press and local journalists. Why, you ask? Well, are you new here? 😂I am actually ashamed that it took me so long. I'm grateful to people like @NateMonroeTU, who have literally saved our city from ruin...(a thread, and a tale of woe)
And to @emdrums for keeping me in the know about the fate of my children's education... and to @TUmarkwoods who shares absolutely beautiful pieces of work with us... and @ChrisHongTU who keeps us in the know about City Council happenings ...
And @MaryKelliPalka for keeping it all moving. So, on 11/22/20, I pulled the trigger and signed up for Sunday delivery and digital access. *self-congratulatory back pat for civic responsibility
Sadly, I have yet to see a single issue of The Florida Times Union hit my doorstep, @jaxdotcom - nor have I been able to access digital content...
I've tried to resolve it. Boy, have I tried. I first submitted the issue via the website noted in my confirmed subscription. No response.
Next, I tried calling the phone number found in that email. It's a completely automated system. I pressed the numbers that best reflected my issue... and... nothing.
Then, like any good American, I took to Twitter, starting with a private message to @jaxdotcom. No response.
Naturally, the next day it was time to escalate to a public tweet, which happened on 12/16. The next day, I received an email letting me know I'd be refunded the amount I was charged and my first paper would arrive today...
You already know where this is going. No refund. No paper. I've reported the missing paper to the automated phone system again today, but I'm losing all confidence.
So journalists, if cuts and furloughs continue, just know that there is a fundamental flaw that is literally preventing local supporters from actually supporting you.
Maybe I'll get the paper someday and access the digital content. Maybe I'll get the refund. I honestly don't even care about that. I'd just love to support my local press without making my own life more stressful.
Good luck sorting it all out. I promise to come back and tell a tale of joy if this is ever corrected. ✌️
