This is nothing new — but it remains completely ridiculous that one of America’s biggest sports is tied to a system where you can win all of your games and still have no opportunity to compete for a championship.
To be clear, I'm not arguing that Cincinnati (or any other undefeated team) should be in this playoff ahead of Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame. My point is strictly about the system. College football shouldn't have a system where perfection still leaves you short.
If you win all of your games in the NFL, you'll be champs. Same goes for MLB. NBA. NHL. MLS. College basketball. So on and so forth. But in college football, if you don't play in the right league, or we don't think you're that good, it doesn't matter even if you win every game.
