Artifacts help you become stronger and enhance your damage and reactions. Each type of artifact has different attributes and main stats, and I’m going to explain to you every. single. one.
Okay, first of all, there are different types of stats. ATK%, Flat HP, Crit DMG%, Elemental Mastery, etc.
What do these stats even mean? What do they do to help you, and how do we know if they’re good?

Each type of stat you can get on your artifacts:

Characters who you want to be your main damage dealer (DPS), you should give them ATK%, and Crit Rate / DMG.
Supports, the ones you want to use their skills and switch to DPS, would benefit with ATK%, Elemental Mastery, and Energy Recharge.
Experiment always, though.

Moving on to substats. Substats are more stats on your artifact! Hurrah! What a predicament!
Artifact bonuses? No way.
There are five pieces of artifacts, each have unique main stats. You can gain the same substats though.
They all have similar roles don’t tell anyone though but the circlet is the favourite child shhh
I’m not going to cover each 5-piece artifact set in this thread because I don’t have a death wish
Try and farm for artifacts once you get to AR40-45. If you’re below that, work with the artifacts you have on right now and focus on levelling up your character and weapons. You’ll waste so much resin on artifacts when you could have used that for upgrading weapons pls pls pls pl

Okay, there are six domains where you can get artifacts. They're called "Domains of Blessing" and they each give you two artifacts to play around with.
Domain of Guyun -
This domain will give you Archaic Petra and Retracing Bolide, perfect for Geo users. (i.e. Ningguang) It's located in Guyun Stone Forest around the waters of Liyue. I recommend Archaic Petra more than the other since the 2-piece gives you bonus Geo dmg.

Midsummer Courtyard -
This domain will give you Thundering Fury and Thundersoother, perfect for electro users. It's located in Starsnatch Cliff in Mondstadt. I recommend Thundering Fury for more electro dmg but the 4-piece on Thundersoother works just as well.

Valley of Remembrance -
This domain will give you Viridescent Venerer and Maiden Beloved. The first one is great for Anemo users (i.e. Venti, Sucrose) and the latter is great for healers (i.e. Barbara). This domain is located around Dawn Winery.

Hidden Palace of Zhou Formula -
This domain will give you Crimson Witch of Flames and Lavawalker, perfect for Pyro users. (i.e. Diluc, Xinyan) It's located at Wuwang Hill in Liyue. I recommend Crimson Witch for DPS but Lavawalker is great as well with the 4-set.

Clear Pool and Mountain Cavern -
This domain will give you Bloodstained Chivalry and Noblesse Oblige. The first is perfect for characters who mainly do Physical DMG and the latter is great for Burst Support. (i.e. Zhongli) You can find this domain in Mt. Aozang in Liyue.

This domain will give you Blizzard Strayer and Heart of Depth, perfect for Cryo and Hydro users. (chongyun and childe mains, rejoice!) It's located at the peak of Dragonspine, once you complete a quest you can unlock this domain iirc

Boss Exclusive -
These artifacts wont drop in Domains but in world bosses. Once you defeat a boss, Gladiator's Finale or Wanderer's Troupe may drop. Gladiator is a great basic artifact set with it's 2 & 4-piece and Wanderer is great for Elemental Mastery for support characters.
