1/6 I have conversations with people of many different viewpoints. I'm often curious how they understand the world, and what foundational beliefs underpin their view.
Today, I'm asking you for your articles of faith. We all have them. What are yours?

2/6 We each approach the world through a set of beliefs - sometimes aware of them, sometimes not. If our foundational beliefs are well-considered, we can build strong structures of knowledge; if not, we often build houses of cards, susceptible to ruin if one card is removed.
3/6 My articles of faith:
1) An objective reality exists.
2) We are often capable of approximating truth about it.
Notice I cannot "prove" these - any reason I can give appeals to the articles themselves. It becomes circular.
We *all* have articles of faith.

4/6 Nuance is built into my second article. "Often" = not always. "Capable" = it is possible, but we can also fail.
There are many different ways we can approximate truth - empirically, rationally, emotionally - the hard part is knowing when to use each tool, or mix of tools.

5/6 Everything I think I know about the world is built on these two articles of faith. I could be wrong about anything; but I attempt to build a strong knowledge structure on as minimal and solid a foundation of belief as possible. This makes for resilience when proven wrong.
6/6 So: What are your articles of faith? I'm genuinely curious. I'd enjoy hearing from people unlike me too!
