Why is the College of Policing allowed to essentially make up guidance which is treated like law, to the extent that citizens who break the guidance can end up with a criminal record? Who elected the College of Policing? To whom are they accountable? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9016601/Girl-14-takes-police-court-school-hate-incidents.html
I notice a trend of this organisation declaring itself competent to, in effect, make up guidance which it instructs officers to treat like law. Police who stood & watched XR thugs trashing stuff cited College of Policing Guidance. What the hell even is the 'College of Policing'?
Firstly, call me old-fashioned, but there was me thinking that laws were made by elected MPs, not unelected policemen.
Secondly, there's another trend, of 'guidance' being treated like law when in fact it goes well beyond the law. This is highly sinister.

If various quangos & semi-governmental organisations (like the College of Policing) are given apparently unlimited discretion to make up 'guidance' which introduces restrictions that are not contained in legislation, then...er...how is that consistent with the rule of law?
I suspect it's a means whereby illiberal left and woke bureaucrats can gain power and impose their diktat (despite having no backing in law) by bypassing any sort of democratic oversight. This is wrong, whether you agree with their diktat or not. All democrats should oppose it
I note that 'civil liberties' organisations like @libertyhq are totally silent on this matter: of course, they only really believe in rights for those who agree with their own liberal left worldview.
But why the current government allows this to go on is truly baffling.

If this supine government will do nothing, people like @SpeechUnion should conduct the most vigorous legal battle they can to cut the College of Policing - which is clearly a major threat to freedom of speech - down to size and prevent police recording 'non-crime hate incidents'
