Each day I open my shit colored eyes and suffer. So here we are in my thread, on Fata Morgana (of course) about a topic I have been arguing with people for the past few days and that topic is: Why I don't think Giselle is great character
It's gonna be a long so folks strap in
It's gonna be a long so folks strap in
Let's start with something that personally bugs me regarding her design. I mentioned this before, how most clothes in Fata Morgana are historically accurate and when creative liberties are takes they are due to conveying a message to the audience(I.e Maria Door 8, Pauline Door 2)
A stylistic choice (All of the Maid outfits), or due to practical reasons (Nellie Door 1). I can elaborate on historical dress in the comments if someone is interested. Now Door 5 Giselle is the only one who doesn't fit in this pattern. I can't know why, but my best bet-
- is fanservice which I mean is fine but it's very cheap considering how good everyone else is she sticks out like a sore thumb. It's inconsistent and tbh that's a trend with Giselle that she is inconsistent compared to the rest of the cast and I'll get to that.
Now the writing oof let's start from the beginning of downfall, after Door 6
1. The too quick of a regression
When Giselle finally recovers her memories, she never has a process of recovering from years of being a shell her regression comes so quick that one moments she is the -

- Maid and the next she is "Kiss me Michel" which the quickness of her change is quite jarring considering how long she has been the Maid. Which leads me to my second point
2. Complete regression

- past self a "stupid naive girl" only to completely regress back to stupid naive girl...
Her development reverts her too much to her Door 5 self which even Giselle acknowledges was naive and stupid but she completely reverts back to that persona anyways

Her development reverts her too much to her Door 5 self which even Giselle acknowledges was naive and stupid but she completely reverts back to that persona anyways
It's like it's not a development but a complete regression which some of you might say isn't bad but lemme lead you to my third point

- own trauma, when Giselles shell broke the one she lived in for 100s of years we are shown no visible turmoil like with every other member of the cast. In series who has running theme of people hiding their pain through made up roles she once again inconsistent and that tbh -
- didn't sit right with me. Which I can trace onto how that reflects onto Door 8
4. Door 8
In Door 8 every character has an inner turmoil and comes to terms with their pain or responsibility. Yukimasa confronts his inner beast, Maria confronts her friendship with Jacopo,
4. Door 8
In Door 8 every character has an inner turmoil and comes to terms with their pain or responsibility. Yukimasa confronts his inner beast, Maria confronts her friendship with Jacopo,
Nellie acknowledges her attachment to Mell and her isolation, Mell finally says to Nellie how the Prince role she puts on him creates pressure and he confronts his own weakness, Jacopo is battling with his inner regret and finally confronting his emotions
Morgana is battling her inner rage and the witch persona she created around herself, Pauline finally expresses how the nun face she puts on is not the life she wanted to live and how she vent all that frustration on Yukimasa by loving him without a second thought
Michel embraces the fact that he should have confronted Morgana long ago cause he is the man who revived her and understood her pain and listened to her whispers for years. Giselle .. Giselle has no such moment she has no moments that is impactful as rest of the cast
She never confronts the Maid she only disparages her "Yeah the Maid was so bad" she never has a moment where all the years she lived in this shell has any impact in an arc that's about shedding the persona to confront your pain. Giselle in Door 8 is reduced to cute comic relief
Michel support who has little to no stakes in the final arc of her story, and it was very jarring to read even more to look back upon and analyze. The next point is kinda related to all of this and I touched upon it a month back
5. Underutilized characterization
Through out her life as Maid her kind hearted nature and wisdom led Giselle to come to people in their most down moments
In Door 1 she gives Mell a lecture about choosing your life path and fleeting bliss of childhood
Through out her life as Maid her kind hearted nature and wisdom led Giselle to come to people in their most down moments
In Door 1 she gives Mell a lecture about choosing your life path and fleeting bliss of childhood
In Door 3 she tells Jacopo after he realized he lost the two most important women in his life, the danger of money and power. And yet this kind hearted nature and wisdom never have any stake in the final arc. Which is weird to me cause she is the one who followed these people
through out their life and told their stories, yet she feels so disconnected to them and never has her own moment where she has stakes in what's happening with people she personally knew, due to her complete regression.
Relating to all of this
6. Her relationship with Morgana
Giselle never has development towards her thoughts with Morgana, at one moment she (justifiable so) is against her but blink and you miss it "Oh sure Michel lets save Morgana love her". She never examines how she feels
6. Her relationship with Morgana
Giselle never has development towards her thoughts with Morgana, at one moment she (justifiable so) is against her but blink and you miss it "Oh sure Michel lets save Morgana love her". She never examines how she feels
towards this person who brainwashed her, like how Michel has and decides to help her. Giselles feeling towards Morgana are never brought up or examined in any sort of fashion they just change on a whim and it adds to her feeling completely disconnected from the main stakes -
- in the plot
So to summarize I think she isn't a realized character who is inconsistent to the series, and all of this led me to feel that way.
Now someone said this to me "How can you love Fata if you think it's herione is mid"

And to me this is ridiculous, if someone doesn't wanna criticize their faves or just has no issues with them to me that's 100% fine, I on the other hand do like to look back on thing and examine my feelings.
And seeing flaws in something I love never takes away from my love, if the work is good and my love for it is strong not any kind of examination is gonna tarnish that. Giselle being not that great can never take away from all the tears I shed, or the love that motivates to -
- color Fata for hours, the love that makes me write about it every day. The absolute amazing OST(which I listen on a daily), the stunning art, the beautiful story about humanity that touched me like nothing else. So no me talking about it's flaws isn't me anti hyping or -
