British government's dithering, continually delayed response to Covid cannot be divorced from countless newspaper columns and broadcast debates pushing 'lockdown sceptic' positions and the 'Swedish model'. Again, idea that there was 'an alternative' really shaped gvmt (in)action
And almost to a man (they are almost all men) the whole lockdown scepticism schtick has been pushed by same anonymously-funded think tanks, lobbyists, grifters and fringe Tory MPs that have made no deal 'nothing to fear'. Find it strange how rarely this pointed out
Am also surprised how rarely people point out that Rishi Sunak is *very* much of the post-2010 hardline Eurosceptic wing of the Tories. Probably the strongest backer in Parliament of the whole Freeport agenda, pushed by dark money think tanks, and other similar Brexit wheezes
Very reasonable question to ask how much Sunak's opposition to lockdown - as reported regularly - has been influenced by the kinds of cranks and grifters that have such an oversized voice in British public life?
