Small thread :
1) Temple pradakshinam (circumbulation around temple prakaarams) in clock wise direction.
There are mainly 3 types of pradakshinams.
(a) adi pradakshinam - normal walking around the sannadhi which one wants to do pradakshinam
2)
(b) padi pradakshinam - measuring each and every step without leaving any gap between two steps, you all know that, heel of one leg kept just before the toe of other leg and continuing the process - takes more time for the same number of pradakshinam
3)
(c) Anga pradakshinam - having a dip in the temple tank (Theertham or river if temple next to a flowing river), without drying body or clothes come to temple praakaram and rolling entire body on the floor and circumbulating with hands in the namaskar position above head
4)
All these are known to all. Then why am I stating this ?
Anga pradakshinam is not actually to be undertaken by ladies. Just like namaskaram, where males can do sasthanga (6 angas (body parts) touching the ground) whereas ladies only panchanga (5 parts touching ground). Why?
5)
The female form represents creation and its value has to be retained and not diminished by grounding the energy form. Toe or ankle/knees/chest or shoulder/forehead and hand (pancha Anga) touches the ground. For male sixth Anga (navel/pelvic) region also touches ground.
6)
Regarding Adi pradakshinam - I find it funny to see many people doing normal pradakshinam (normal walking around sannadhi) as if they are running a race and they will get some gold medal. Worst 2-3 people together walking fast and talking about politics, general subject
7)
That is VERY WRONG. First of all, mantras or Slokas related to the god/goddess of that sannadhi which is being circumbulated has to be chanted silently. MOST IMPORTANT is speed. It shouldn't be like running 🏃 race around the sannadhi. Then what is the speed as per sastra?
8)
Very important and interesting information on speed to walk around the sannadhi. Imagine a pregnant 🤰 lady walking on her 9th month of pregnancy. Now imagine if she is carrying a pot full of water on her head. Imagine she is told not a drop of water has to be spilled.
9)
The above 3 points if applied, visualize the speed with which she would walk. THAT IS THE SPEED with which one has to do pradakshinam.
Hope adiyen's thread is informative.
