A thread on tools/skills and being a mentor

Spent an hr going thru my framing tools.
I definitely date myself.
One thing I don't get is why guys don't use a "catpaw" anymore.
Everyone seems to have these $200-300 hammers and no catpaw.
Catpaw=nail puller
As I pulled out my wormdrive skilsaw I realized omg it's insane heavy. Put it back, grabbed my trusty DeWalt circular saw, realized it's got a cord. Nobody uses corded tools now it seems.
20V cordless DeWalt it is
In my day, we ran Paslode nail guns, and a gas powered compressor. The cordless, gas/battery guns were only for roof/truss work cause expensive lol. Took me months to understand roof cutting and "stick" framing.
All those numbers on squares aren't for decortaion 😉🤪
If you don't own a level, a carpenter's square, a speed square (Johnson square), a chalkline, or a carpenters pouch, chances are you've never had to build anything from lumber.
There's nothing wrong with that, but I'd bet money, you wish you had learned.
The one tool not common now, is the mind.
Give me 5 specific tools and I could frame a house, much slower yes, but that's not my point.
Craftsmanship is dying
Throw away generation needs to stop. It's what brought us a powerful chy-na and cheap dollar store junk.
No matter how trivial you think it is, teach your kids everything you know.
The world isn't getting better, it's getting weaker and less knowledgable. Hard to believe with Google 😞
Stop babysitting, start teaching. It's your duty to pass your knowledge on.
