Random thread, but keen to hear thoughts? If a player at a club is going to leave, then the club pulls "loyalty" and "being part of the family" card.I think some clubs/franchises go above and beyond & treat their players REALLY well. The question is,do you think that the same 1/7
club that pulled the "loyalty & family" card, would extend a player that is either considered too old/hit a few very bad injuries or just not on form?? There is so much judgement thrown at players that leave their home clubs or unions & they don't know all the facts. 2/7
Rugby careers can be insanely short. Money is not everything or even a priority for most. It definitely isn't for me, despite all the accusations. If a player wants to experience a different culture, possibly raise kids overseas and get foreign passports that could change 3/7
their kids lives in the future. Maybe a player comes from a really difficult background and is made an offer that can change not only his life, but that of his parents and relatives. Is he a "money chaser, with no respect or loyalty"?? Everyone thinks leaving SA is 4/7
easy and adjusting overseas is a piece of cake. Try going to a foreign country that's first language is not English or Afrikaans. It is anything BUT easy. It just interests me how some put their players livelihood above the clubs. Won't mention who because it will give him a 5/7
massive head and he definitely doesn't need an ego boost.. If a player (or anyone for that matter) signs a contract I believe they should honour it, no questions asked. NZ and AUS are big into sabbatical periods so that players can go away for a very short term and earn, 6/7
really good money.. I know a few unions in SA have done it and its awesome IMO. Sharks and Bulls in particular . 7/7
