2020 hasn't been all bad. In fact for a lot of parts of my life it has been a very good year. I want to recognize some of my highlights of social media for 2020. A thread...
My friend @eastcropper has been the rock to his daughter's @KelseyBanks battle with cancer this year. And bravely she has chronicled her journey. Quietly I have cheered for her from the shadows and I am so hopeful for her speedy recovery
@wealthy_barber has been a source of humour and witty comments. Actually it is his dad who is the star. #buttertarts
#andyclean has been such a lot of fun to follow and @apasztor82 has been so gracious with his distribution of the stickers. Personally I don't see myself ever qualifying as a recipient, but I am so impressed with those that do.
Early in the pandemic @SNETCampbell took it upon himself to spread good vibes by calling @BlueJays fans and brightening their day. Thanks to @LaurenDalyce my Mom got one of those calls. It made her day! He went beyond that and delivered needed supplies to front line workers!!
Late in the summer I got to follow along as @CrystalMackay32 's 82 year old dad Russell walked 125km from his home to @CHEO and raised over $120k to support the hospital.
Like many, some of my work transitioned to online with @zoom_us . It is harder to connect with people. Elissa Deboer of @Holmesagro signs off her emails with "warmly" as the salutation. It is noticed and appreciated. More of us should use that, it makes us human
@domoreag has been great at reminding us to pay attention to our own mental health. @lesleyraekelly has lead the charge and she is such a ray of sunshine, every day!
One of the sayings I have heard more of this year is related to bingo cards. As in "who had a world wide pandemic" on their bingo card this year". I chuckle everytime
I committed to myself to #shoplocal as much as possible. It is easy to go online and click on Amazon, but it feels better to support the local business, and with minimal effort has been almost as convenient and I feel just as safe.
And finally 2020 has been the year to make sure I practice #empathy. I falter doing this sometimes and I'm grateful for the reminders to get back into practice.
So that's ten of my good vibes of 2020, mostly gleaned from twitter. Share some of yours.
Happy holidays everyone #ontag
A bonus good vibe. Almost all local fairs were cancelled in '20. The Glencoe Ag Society, which happens to be my home town, organized a 50:50 draw, the pot grew to over $360000 and the winner was local!
