Having done a few solo christmasses in my time for ~reasons~ here are a few tips to make sure it isn’t completely miserable:
• schedule your day well in advance and stick to the schedule. aim to leave the house for a walk/cycle which goes past things that are Christmassy
• schedule your day well in advance and stick to the schedule. aim to leave the house for a walk/cycle which goes past things that are Christmassy
• food is everything. what you have for dinner doesn’t matter but I’d recommend getting nice breakfast foods and ‘luxurious’ stuff like smoked salmon or cheese that isn’t just cheddar (lol) that makes it feel special. Indulge in the fact you can eat whatever without judgement!
• stay off social media as much as is humanly possible. You’ll see happy families and people on holiday and if you’re not able to have that it can be sad, no matter how much you love those people. That’ll be worse this year. Instagram particularly is a no-go zone
• do something novelty and fun you couldn’t do if you were spending it with family. Watch tv they can’t stand, drink things you’d get told off for (j20
), ruin your appetite by snacking on chocolate all day, play music that sparks joy for you but granny would hate, etc etc

• there are another few that are simple: wear real clothes, call a friend who WON’T speak to you in a pitying way, open the curtains and get the heating on. Buy yourself a present to open on the day if you’ve got the money. Wash your hair and put the good perfume on. Candles!
• most importantly, however shit this year may be, you’re here and you can treat yourself and things will be different in the future! You’re resilient! You deserve to eat fancy ice cream and watch Shrek after just having a bath for an hour. BE YOUR MOST EXTRAVAGANT SELF!
And finally, if you have any spare cash, make a donation on Christmas Day to someone less fortunate - whether that’s through a charity or a just giving page. It’s good for the soul.

This blew up so if anyone fancies donating - due to lockdown 3 the food bank I work at is anticipating a surge in need. If you’ve got spare pennies we’d love a donation! https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/feedthehill
