As someone who has celebrated Christmas the past couple of years alone, sharing what my plans was (I say plan because I was so hungover I was in bed till 6 last year but in 2018 I had an amazing time alone) for anyone suddenly finding themselves in same situation this year.
Sleep in. The day was for me so I didn’t need to worry about anything. Then I went for a run - mostly to build an appetite but it was nice go out on a chilly day where the streets were empty. People you pass smile too! I can’t run at the moment so this year I will go for a walk.
After the run, shower before opening a bottle of Prosecco and presents (in that order). Then I call my mum. By this time it’s way past lunch and famished. Small snacks with the Prosecco as I start putting things in the over and making my own meal.
No Turkey but I also make a roast plus my favourite Brussels sprouts with bacon. The flat should be toasty by now and I open another bottle in time for the Queen’s message/Channel 4’s alternative message. Not particularly interested in it but just a British this to do?
Food should be ready by now. TV stays on and I watch whatever Christmas special is happening while having my meal. It’ll be about 5-6pm by now and I’ll be tipsy and jolly.
Mess around with my new presents, a Christmas movie then by 9pm, tired enough from food and drinks to get tired so start getting ready for bed. Wish everyone good night on social media, read a couple of pages of a book and pass out with the lights still on.
It can be quite lovely. This year though, I’ll likely open a Zoom room for a few hours so friends can pop in and out to say hi. Some company for me, but also since Christmas will be different for many others. If you need company, just hit me up.
Yes, Christmas will be different and probably not what you were expecting but this was the same for me when I found myself having to celebrate alone for the first time in 2018. But it didn’t cancel Christmas. Sending you lots of love in these difficult times. ❤️
p/a forgive all the typos but I think you can get what I’m trying to say 🙈
