Being a feminist doesn’t mean to only argue with men on social media or nag about toxic masculinity 247. Real feminists overseas (US), fought for so many changes you see in developed countries today. They walked the streets and went all the way to signing things into law.
1. They played a huge roll in the civil rights movement. They distributed flyers and organized other women for the boycott of the Montgomery, bus after
Rosa Park refused to sit in the black-only part of the bus, in 1960.
2. Through numerous campaigns on radios and TV, they were able to educate housewives on their right to join the labor force, and to equal pay, which changed the economy.

Looking at the situation in Nigeria, there are so many issues that affect women that feminists
can go for. There’s still gender discrimination, unequal wages, child labor, child bride, sexual harassment in the workplace, no benefit for widows, no free contraceptives, and lack of proper women’s health centers in the community. Men also benefit from some changes too.
Since women can get a number of weeks for maternity leave, men should get the same. After all, if we want men to get involved more in the family, we need to give them paternity leave, so they can bond with their newborns. Many workers overseas already enjoy this benefit
and feminists made that happen.
So if you call yourself a feminist, think about ways you can change your society for the benefit of men and women. Tweeting is not enough!

Of course, there are notable women in Nigeria who have fought for certain rights for women, but the fight shouldn’t stop with them, because we still have a long way to go as a people.
