thread of common lesbophobia ; especially within fandoms

ps some of this is smaller stuff with fandoms other stuff is more serious . this is just be as an individual expressing my own frustrations and i can not speak for the whole lesbians community . also pls ignore typos if something doesn’t make sense pls ask me to clarify

okay let’s start with lesbophobia relating to head canons

btw when i used the * or ** that means i’m going to be providing an example i tu the next reply

1. only letting lesbians have lesbian a hc if the character has never interacted w/ a man . some of you are so quick to say that a character can’t be a lesbian just because they dated a man in the past

the problem with this is that it ignores there are lesbians who have pasts with men before they figured out they where a lesbian and it ignores the experience of comphet

this enforces the idea of “ the gold star lesbian “ which means a lesbian who has never been with a man before , being with men in the past doesn’t make you any less of a lesbian and you need to get rid of the idea that lesbians can’t have ever interacted with or been with men b4

if a character so much a smiles at a men people will be like “ see they can’t be a lesbian they just smiled at that guy

” this is an exaggeration ofc but that’s what it sounds like sometimes

the underlying thing i’m trying to say here is that , if a character doesn’t have a canon sexuality then you can hc as you like . we say this time and time again but ppl still like to demonize lesbians over this

if the character is canonically another sexuality then yes it’s 1000% a problem to call that character a lesbian if they aren’t bc that’s erasing other rep(*) but if a character doesn’t have one then there’s absolutely no problem with saying that that they r a lesbian (**)

for ex one (*): people calling korra a lesbian . that’s extremely problematic bc korra is canon bi

for ex 2(**) : remember when people got mad at lesbian piper hc ?? piper doesn’t have a canon sexuality so it’s literally not erasing any rep to call her a lesbian

2. some people only hc the mean characters a lesbians

the mean lesbian stereotype has been around forever . some ppl only hc the mean and cold characters as lesbian and the kinder soft hearted ones as a non-lesbian sexuality. i think mean lesbians are the coolest but it kind of comes of as people associating +

meanness with lesbianism and associating them with traits considered to be bad or undesirable

( to be clear it’s 100% okay for lesbians to reclaim this mean lesbian stereotype themselves ) it’s not a problem if u call a mean character a lesbian but it is a problem if you only do lesbian hcs when the character is mean

if there’s a lesbian positivity thread or a lesbians only whatever post going around , rt for ur lesbians mutuals to see but don’t comment stuff like “ well i’m not a lesbian but - “ bc clearly whoever posted it wanted it to be a lesbian only space

lesbians deserve to have their own space separate from the rest of the community. we are not saying we suffer more or less than you do but there are experiences that are lesbian that non-lesbians won’t understand. the same goes for every community in the lgbt

lesbians saying “ i hate men “ or expressing their personal disinterest in dating men is not anything phobic . unless they are targeting some1 specifically you should just leave them alone bc they aren’t doing anything

lesbian who is not directing this anyone in particular : i hate men
non-lesbian : are you shaming my attraction to men ?

idk what # this is : assuming lesbianism is inherently sexual or nsfw . there is nothing inherently wrong with sex or nsfw content but it’s a problem if you only associate lesbianism with being “dirty “

if someone has the tweet pls link it but it said something about how ppl will call everything soft and pure sapphic but only use the term lesbian when it’s nsfw . op was right

also if you see a lesbian expressing comphet on the tl keep scrolling don’t question their sexuality or invalidate them . no one is any less of a lesbian for experiencing comphet
