@Steve_Dangle @AdamWylde Listening to your last podcast, at the point about Walter Gretzky
I grew up 2 minutes from Gretzky’s house. Everything you said was true and also only scratches the surface about Walter.

The dude became such a famous part of Brantford that they named two hockey tournaments after him, after they already had one in Wayne’s honour.
I’ve played golf with Walter maybe 20 years ago at the local public course and he spent the whole round looking in weeds for lost balls

When he was recovering from his aneurysm, he helped coach my Novice AAA hockey team. His physical therapist was the trainer for our team and was dating Wayne’s sister so they brought Walter out to help.
He obviously didn’t do much but his ability to make new memories had been shredded and they found being around the rink and talking to kids and parents seemed to help him.
Before every game he would barge into the other team’s room and regale them with stories, and get them totally wound up that they wouldn’t even know what was happening for the first period
Late in the year, Wayne showed up at one of our practices (he was recovering from his back injury) and CAME ON THE ICE WITH US. Whole rink was absolutely packed watching 7&8 year olds practice because the GOAT is just wheeling around.
I got my stick signed by both Wayne and Walter, and as soon as we left the rink my dad took me straight to the sports store bc there was no way in hell I was ever using that stick again.
That’s my Walter Gretzky story, every kid who played hockey in Brantford will have one
