Having done prior research on a variety of injuries beforehand for my writing, it makes me have absolutely no hope that Oscar will be physically okay after this

Alive (for a different reason), but definitely not okay

This is a thread of me going over what injuries he either could, does, or may eventually have.

I'm not sparing any detail since I've been thinking about this all day and need to get it off my chest, so if that makes you uncomfy, I recommend stopping here.)

Just seeing him hanging there is concerning enough oml

It's actually one of several torture methods involving hanging someone from their wrists (or ankles) and all of them are extremely painful and potentially deadly if you hang there for long enough

With Oscar's position specifically, there are multiple problems:

-hypovolemic shock from bleeding
-exsanguination (bleeding out)
-tearing of the muscles, ligaments, tendons, etc.
-dislocations
-asphyxiation (suffocation)
-dead or dying (gangrenous) limbs
-rope burns (obviously)

When you hang like that, your weight transfers from your arms, shoulders, and more or less your entire body to your chest, and can get bad enough to the point you can't breathe at all.

Speaking of weight, it can cause muscles, etc to tear in your arms and shoulders.

Can be anything from a minor sprain to a complete tear (which can make it impossible to use that limb) depending on how long you hang there, which also causes bleeding, which can ALSO lead to shock if its bad enough. It may or may not kill you depending on how much blood you lost

(hypovolemic shock happens after you lose more than 20% of your blood, which is roughly 1 liter for the average person. think a 1-liter bottle of soda. it's survivable and a pain in the ass, but you won't die unless you go over 40% without medical treatment)

Your weight can also force the joints in your wrists, elbows, and shoulders out of place, which can make it difficult to use them. But in general, it's extremely painful, and judging by how Oscar's shoulders look and how his hands are tied, I'm suspecting it's at least on the—

—verge of happening. So personally, I don't think he's been there for more than an hour

And finally, keeping a limb raised reduces blood flow. Being tied up like that eventually cuts it off & causes the limb to die

Even if he wasn't hanging, his hands are fucked no matter what

Oh right, your spine also stretches out from all the weight, and it can cause nerve/spinal damage.

But he's at least probably gonna have some trouble walking once he gets down oof

And that's just for hanging by his wrists sksksk

Now for the other equally-bad part: Hazel beating him.

In all seriousness, I highly doubt he doesn't have any broken bones.

I mean, look at his face: a black eye, what I'm assuming to be bruises under his eye and jaw (but he was def hit there), a bloody nose, bleeding from the mouth, swelling?, etc.

If I were to make an educated guess based on only his face, he probably has (a):

-broken nose
-at least one cracked/fractured facial bone, maybe broken (cheek most likely)
-minor jaw dislocation
-cracked skull (he almost blacked out)
-prob a cut on his lip or a bleeding tooth

(dislocated jaws aren't always locked jaws. it depends on the severity, but i think it's a minor dislocation since he doesn't seem to have any trouble talking)

As for the rest of him...

His ribs are definitely fucked. I mean, broken, fractured, cracked. At least several.

Hazel's been punching and kicking him in the chest too, so I'm expecting the same with his sternum and collar bones. He might even get costochondritis, who knows?

(costochondritis is inflammation around the sternum, where the ribs connect. it's nothing major, just chest pains that can resemble a heart attack, soreness/aching, and cracking. that's really it. i know what i'm talking about cuz i have it lol)

Lowkey I'm expecting other cracked or fractured bones, maybe broken. A messed up ankle maybe?

Hazel's been going full-force since Oz took over, and the beating itself started like several hours before.

Honestly, I wouldn't doubt if he ended up with a punctured lung. Nothing deadly, but enough to be a pain while not killing him.

A collapsed lung from a puncture isn't always deadly or even serious. Get medical attention, of course, but the more minor ones can heal on their own.

Sometimes you may need extra oxygen, but otherwise, literally just avoid being active and you'll be fine.

For why I think he'll survive this aside from the severity of his injuries:

He and Oz are too important right now, period. but excluding plot armor, Salem's just smart enough to know killing him would cause more problems for her than benefits.
