PSA: How to Help Postal/Delivery Workers in Ways You Never Considered

My brother just ended a 15hr work shift as a delivery driver. The holidays are always brutal, but this year it's unprecedented. The things that make the job hardest are things YOU can help with!
1. Please don't let Christmas decorations, wreaths, etc obstruct the number on your house

2. If your house numbers are chipped, faded, peeling, tiny, etc, try to fix that. Consider adding large ones on roadside mailboxes. Most time is spent looking for you. GPS only goes so far.
3. If you don't have to sign for something, DO NOT meet them at the door. Most workers are under-supported/protected and are in contact w/ hundreds of people a day.

4. If you do have to sign, please come to the door WITH a mask or shield your face w/ clothes if unprepared.
5. Don't linger or chat right now or stop them on the street. They honestly just do not have time. A friendly wave or thank you is still great!

6. Make sure boxes, porches and sidewalks are fully plowed/de-iced. Even if you only use a garage, they use the door. Give them a way.
7. If you'd like them TO use the garage instead, leave a box out that's very clearly marked as for them. They will if they know.

8. In rural areas, if it's safe for your pkgs, you can even leave a box out at the end of your driveway very clearly marked and save them time, too.
9. If you're disabled, d/Deaf, or have some other reason it may take you a bit longer to get to the door, and are expecting a pkg to sign for, consider leaving a note on the door that indicates so.

They'll know to wait and not have to come back tomorrow OR make you go to the PO.
10. As always, if you have dogs or other pets, please keep them in or contained.

11. If you live in an apt complex, please keep the area as clean and clearly marked as possible. The same drivers aren't gonna be there daily and know the layout. Save them time!
12. Try not to let decorations hang too low on your porch. It's funny to turn around after quickly sitting a pkg down and be clotheslined once, but not 10 times a day.

13. Be courteous. Be grateful. Expect drop-offs as late as 7 or 8pm. It's not in their control. They're trying.
14. Consider leaving them a thoughtful gift or letter or kind word if that's your thing. Even more hand sanitizer sprays or gloves ha.

Okay that's not a msg from my brother but me. Only bc I think he'd cry if someone was just nice to him.
