I've seen this play-out with coding bootcamps and it's tiring
immersive workshops can be great learning opportunities, but they require money and time that most people can't afford
immersive workshops can be great learning opportunities, but they require money and time that most people can't afford
and you can learn on your own time (basically how I got into tech) but it doesn't come with the same prestige and connections
but there's no guarantee of success from any formal path of education, and you end up with heavy survivorship bias (you hear about successful bootcamp grads because they're successful)
I've also heard of bootcamps averaging out graduate salaries using only reported data
ex. 2/15 grads get tech jobs, only count their salaries so graduate comp seems great

I guess I'm frustrated to see this play out elsewhere
I'm fine with doing writing workshops on the weekends! I'm fine taking it slow. Let me pay for the privilege.

obviously you can become a successful writer or developer without these schools, but I don't like the options being "flail around by yourself (good luck)" or "throw everything to the wind for One Shot"
Addendum: this thread introduced me to @Catrambo's Rambo Academy for Wayward Writers, which is having a huge sale until Jan 1st
