Since I've been getting commentary from people and other things I've feel like it's time to dive in on Terra or people who don't know about her and the discourse around her. This is one of those deep fandom discussions.
Now most people are familiar with Terra from the cartoon, and that's fine, she's is a much more cleaned up version of the one from the comics, a truly tragic and sad character. I like the cartoon but it might lead to a perception these are 1 to 1.
They are not if we go by the original story the Judas Contract(best name for a traitor story ever) Terra is not some sympathetic character but a manipulator who does not care about her team at all and JOINED to backstab them. No if's or butts.
The relationship is also very strange from how you might think it should be played instead of some abusive control over her he let's Terra do as she please like how she insults his family in this moment.
The comic also does one thing, one problem with Deathstroke is the modern perception of him for a long time was this badass who can't be taken down, but here you see his thoughts and how terrified he is of Terra, who CAN CONTROL THE FUCKING EARTH AROUND HER.
Once the mask if off with Terra you can kind of see what the story is going for Terra is a being with immense power who has no moral fiber, we don't know what made her like this exactly we just see, she does not care about her team at all.
the comic does not have her drop the act at all, till the need for the reveal like this scene later where she pretends to be sad that Robin is leaving the Titans, it's the point of the story she seems like this caring person.
We also can't forget how unlike the cartoon where she cared about Beast Boy(he's called Changling here) she was just using Garth's feelings for her to her advantage, she's given agency but it's not good agency you know.
This gets to her being a controversial figure in the modern fandom, some fans hate the fact that this female character is evil when clearly the story should be about Deathstroke being the evil one in this dynamic, and how the story paints her as evil.
For one often people who hate it bring up the fact that the comic slut shames her and I can't see that, and I will tell you why.
New Teen Titans was horny as fuck, the comic was not afraid to touch sexuality, one of the main plots of it is Robin need to accept he's attracted to Starfire. and Starfire is portrayed as a positive person along with others in this comic.
Sex was never an indicator someone was evil in this comic, in fact that seems like the comic was mostly about sexuality being fine for adults and just part of life. Terra evil came from how powerful she was and how much she was betraying the team.
Like I said I feel this comes from people who who feel women get a bad rap in comics, and I understand it, but keep in mind the intention of the story was Evil Kitty Pryde plus NTT tended to have a major focus on it's females characters.
