One of the things the last year has really brought home to me is how — over the course of my lifetime — cities have been retooled so there’s nowhere to sit outdoors.
Walked through my local park today — an eight-acre spread — there is a surfeit of exercise equipment (which nobody was using) but only two benches, on opposite flanks of the park.
In more built-up areas, you have the familiar phenomenon of e.g. bus shelter seats that have been designed to be uncomfortable, in case a homeless person should decide to stretch out and have a kip.
This might sound a bit Corbyn-in-his-allotment, but it wouldn’t have been beyond (local or national) governments to throw a few more benches around and make it easier for people to meet and sit. It would have done a lot of good.
