Thread (sorry) about @CMO_England
Firstly Prof is no Gov stooge. He’s a first class physician. I once rang him on call at night as a junior medical Reg - I think the first time I rang the consultant on call during a night shift in all my years as a SpR (out of 3 times)... 1/6

... It was around 1-2am and I was really worried about a complex patient with serious pathology. We spoke for about 20 minutes and he gave some brilliant advice and was as clear and lucid as he is on TV. He was very supportive and gave excellent advice... 2/6

... At the end of the call I said ‘thank you’ and ‘see you in a few hours for the post take ward round’. Then he said ‘Phil, you won’t, I’m not on call - switchboard have made a mistake, it’s Dr X on call’ ... I was so embarrassed I’d woken him up but amazed ... 3/6

... that he’d listened and advised regardless and was perfectly lovely about it. I apologised and then spoke to the real consultant on call and explained what I’d done - he was also lovely and a great physician. Both @uclh consultants... 4/6

It’s always stuck with me as he didn’t need to listen or support me at that time. He could have easily stopped me early in my tracks. The patient did very well thankfully and I’m glad I spoke to both (!) consultants. I did quite a few on calls with @CMO_England ... 5/6
