What really gets me, regarding the push for self-ID and the removal of single-sex exemptions, is the speed and forcefulness with which it has been happening.
Only 5 years ago, hardly anyone (including myself) had barely given them any thought. 1/

And yet, suddenly, it's being put forward as if it should be a foregone conclusion.
People, who until very recently, were thinking one thing, are suddenly expected to accept something radically different, lest they be labelled a nasty, vile, bigoted fascist. 2/

We've barely had any dialogue, discourse, debate and here we are, being told to use certain pronouns, or else we'll be disciplined or sacked.
Worse still, if some proposed laws go through, we could be arrested and convicted of some kind of heinous 'hate crime'. 3/

When other civil rights movements happened, there were many many years, decades, even centuries of struggle to make any meaningful gains.
And of course, they shouldn't have taken so long. In fact, it was a travesty that they did take so long.

There was a process, where things took time to implement change and usher in a new way of thinking, a new orthodoxy. If society is to fully accept such changes, they need to be managed and worked out. Society is messy, especially the more populous they are. 5/
However - and this is a major issue - along with the speed and force of this movement, has come a wave of abuse, almost exclusively aimed at women.

"Validate me" (or I'll report you and trash your livelihood).
"Use my pronouns" (or I'll report you for a hate crime).
"Accept I'm a 'lesbian' with a dick" (or I'll threaten to rip your throat out).
"Let me into your space" (or I'll picture myself with a knife when there) 9/

All the while, major public figures are happy to let such threats and demands pass, while women just get on with the work of protecting their hard won rights and do so with far more grace and determination than they are given credit for.
These women are awesome!
