I've seen a lot of recent posts about the need for educators to take time for self-care over this winter break. I have some thoughts. 1/
First, of course, everyone needs to take some time to decompress. We're in the middle of a pandemic. 2020 sucked for most people. And a break is always nice.
But if your employer is telling you to be sure you take time for self-care, it seems to me they're admitting they're creating a professional atmosphere that is incredibly stressful, to a point they acknowledge it may be negatively impacting your physical and mental health.
And they're then passing the responsibility for correcting that issue to you, the employee, rather than evaluating their own decisions that have created the dangerous atmosphere.
It seems that some level of collaboration between school boards, administrators and teachers to determine actions that could be taken to decrease the overall stress of the situation would be a better approach, but I don't see school districts taking those steps.
