I've done a lot of soul-searching and personal growth the last two years and decided to write down some of the lessons I've learned which make life more 𝑒𝓃𝒿𝑜𝓎𝒶𝒷𝓁𝑒

there’s always at least two takes you can have on anything: the interested one and the cynical one. always go with the interested one.
the best way to learn is not by spending so much time mapping out a new field, but to just learn learn learn as much as you can. any random tid bit helps. the pieces will fall into place and the connections will be made later
there’s always something to be found interesting. you just have to find the right perspective to take https://twitter.com/CXGonzalez_/status/1340347973172162563?s=20
enjoying the process > desiring the end
when finding things to like (eg new music) always go in with the perspective that you're open to enjoying the """worst""" of these things enjoyable (eg Taylor swift or some other popular artist)
the fastest way to happiness is nailing down the small stuff. work in order of easiest to hardest and do so very slowly so the habits stick

eg drinking water->wake up same time->meditate->gym
avoid putting your future-self in a position where they have to rely on willpower
work on building willpower anyways. fitness is the best way I know how
mindfulness mediation is as close to a cure for anxiety as I think we can get for now
know-thyself is best done with a therapist or journaling
find out what you think other people think of you. that's a great way to see what you truly think of yourself
you are not your job title.

get a hobby. it’s what you’re probably working to be able to do anyways
live where the weathers nice (or at least doesn’t suck). it affects your mood way more than you think
keep a list of things you moderately enjoy. when you’re bored and don’t know what to do, read the list and see if you want to do any of them. if not, pick a random one and commit to it for just 1 minute. you'll be surprised at how effective this is
always have a project to pour creative energy into and watch grow
be particular with your friends. if you believe that this person is some you truly care about, commit. make a point of at least calling them every few weeks.
you should probably be writing down more, not fewer things
figure out a good system for keeping track of the things you write down. this will pay dividends over the long haul
choose when to speak deliberately but when you do, commit. speak clearly and with confidence
listen to other people. everyone, and I mean everyone, has something to teach you. it’s just a matter of you finding the value in what they say or do
set daily reminders to focus on the breath. it's important to slow down for a moment to cut through the chaos of the day
“real” is a poorly defined concept. so is “true” and “exists”. “useful” is the more... useful concept.
listening to few songs a lot > listening to many songs a few times
automate your finances and you won’t have to think about retirement or debt as long as you hold a decent job
define your own values. but remember, you’re not the first person to live. life is a game and people have written manuals. learn from them https://twitter.com/AskYatharth/status/1326839826851786752?s=20
remind yourself when things are actually out of your control, and let go. when they are in your control, work like hell
think about famous people you like. figure out why. write down that trait you like about them. eventually you’ll start to see commonalities which will help you figure out what it is you look for in potential friends/coworkers/mentors/romantic partners
most of your beliefs are probably wrong.
most of your beliefs are connected in a network.
most of your beliefs can be updated at the drop of new information which can come from anywhere or anyone.

expect to change your mind and embrace it
show don’t tell. don’t talk explicitly about how you’re X, Y, or Z. eventually people will pick up on it. you'll also look way better as a result
thinking in another language helps you keep it sharp and helps you find crucial words/grammatical structures you can improve on
you’re an individual first. but you’re not just an individual. you need community
the best mental habit to get in is to notice what you’re thinking. it’s okay to think, but it’s important to not pollute the airways. garbage in garbage out. https://twitter.com/CXGonzalez_/status/1340348969831022593?s=20
