Call me crazy, but I would just find it honorable to come out and explain your change of position, if said position has been your public stand for many years in ministry. Much more honorable than just changing positions and then showing shock at those who won’t change with you.
This seems to happen a lot.....whether the issue is pastoral qualifications (specifically divorce for a Pastor), alcohol use by Christians, Bible translation, or if you took a hard line position (either way) on music and/dress
I really don’t care what your position is, I have friends all over the map on every one of those issues. But it just gets frustrating when people change their position, mid-ministry, and expect everyone to either go along with it, or pretend so shift happened.
And let me add.....when someone does change one of those positions, we ought to keep “individual soul liberty” at the forefront of our discussion and speak the truth in love. We can disagree, even strongly disagree, and still recognize we are brothers in Christ and show respect.
