Some days, I question why I ever became involved with #MedTwitter. The immaturity from the vocal minority is tough to overlook.

Students work so hard to get to where they are in their education. Why would they risk their future by behaving so immature? https://twitter.com/sarah_mojarad/status/1340319340592123904
See, there’s a pattern of behavior. Their words are reckless at times and yet they will also position themselves as victims.

When they are reckless, there’s zero self-awareness or accountability.

My issue is with their demand for perfection in other people.
Their are issues with other people, too.

A physician called me a c*nt.

I’ve been labeled racist by a mix of medical students and physicians. When that happens, God help you. You’re not allowed to defend yourself. You’re supposed to accept it.

Sorry, that’s not going to happen.
So, people preemptively block. I’m ok with it now, but it hurt in the beginning.

Every week I stumble upon about a dozen accounts that have preemptively blocked me.

I frame it as people defining their own space. It makes easier to manage.
You know what’s funny? I’m being facetious here.

The students who preach the problems with “doxxing” - not the correct term for reporting bad behavior to schools lol - they threaten to do the same to one another.
They eat each other alive when the opportunity arises. Lol

One student openly threatened to report a Black resident to his program director. Not normal. Not ok.
In another case, a student said she would ruin another student’s reputation.

She promised that everytime her target’s name was Googled, the word racist would also appear.

The harasser then went to the target’s YouTube account and posted nasty comments.

No one said a word.
This is why I dig my heels in at times. I may come across as hypocritical.

I get it. I have self-awareness and understand the criticisms.

People don’t know the history of events though.
What’s the genesis of this whole saga? Lol.

I was asked to serve as an impartial party to some drama between a group of attendings and a trainee.

I said their were issues and good points on both sides.

The trainee side wanted absolute allegiance. I was unwilling to provide it.
I’m being long-winded here.

I’d like to become more involved in subsets of #MedTwitter and excuse myself from all further engagement with these folks.

They rewrite history with no evidence to support claims. Others believe them. It’s tough to walk away from the accusations.
I’m also interested in communities in #STEM.

I’d like to explore communities outside of STEM and medicine as well.

Any recommendations?
The last few tweets might seem silly, but I have to know my audience before I’m able to write impactful threads and advice. That’s how I operate best.
To the folks who have been sympathetic and understanding, thank you. 🙏

Sorry for being a bummer the last few months. 😂

It’s been a tough year. 🤪
