"Music was my first loce, and it will be my last."

"It's all happening at the Zoo", as a wise man once put it. How true: 2020 was a plague year, in more than one sense.

But Enclosure Three abides. With music. So...
Here it is:

The 2020 Enclosure Three Golden Salad Leaf List

of beautiful, heartbreaking, funny, overwelming, jaw-dropping, inspired, carefully produced music.

57 records (17.12.2019-17.12.2020).

Off we go, in no particular order, every artist only one entry (one exception)
#1 @everydaydust - Beyond the Capital

The Supreme Overlord of Mosswave creates the foggiest (in a good sense) atmosphere imaginable. This record is a good overview of his work. A belter, as some would say. "Some" like in DJST
#2 @TheHomeCurrent - Coal Pit Zen, on the wonderful @woodford_halse label...a record that cannot deny its origin in dance music...but boy, that's a disco that is. Straight to the core of your soul...

No Ocelots allowed.
#3 @soullessparty - Black Meadow Archive Vol 1

A journey into the heartland of hauntological nostalgia and part of a Gesamtkunstwerk that I am looking forward to seeing it further developed by this wonderful chap and artist. ( @CastlesInSpace, btw.)
#4 @only1klaus 2

An electronical festival, banging, clapping, roaring, and a little threatening. A force to be reckoned with!
#5 @KeithSeatman - Time To Dream But Never Seen

A hell of an album!! Pulling no punches, playful, but with a stylistc vengeance that one cannot love enough. Lafcadio Hearne inspired "Avoid Large Places" and gives Hammer Films a run for their money.
#6 @COI_Music Treedom

The melting of Nature and Electronics has a great tradition, and can go horribly wrong so often. Not so here. A music that can transform nature into acoustic beauty, creating pictures in your mind you'd be foolish to forget.
#7 @featheredgothic Pefkin - Celestial Navigation

A chilling, enerving piece of art. Let yourself fall or stand in awe before the beauty of those soundscapes and the vox humana h.c.
#8 Correlations - Evocation

This here was a tough decision as Correlations had more than one arrow in thei quiver this year...

Anyway, an incredible concentrated record, showing the artist on top of their game, namely make you think and feel and levitate at the same time.
#9 @SEODAH The Rose and The Cross

A kind of sacral music, brought to you by someone who obviously knows exactly where the Christian composers of the Middle Ages got their "Umph" from. One for these days, I guess.
#10 @cafekaput Jon Brooks - How To Get To Spring

An acoustic manual that gives you exactly what its title promises. Sublime
#11 The @Heartwood9 Institute and @panamintmanse Parapsychedelia

A concept album on ESP. Dark and groovy, with an odd 70s touch. Should be played at Erich van Däniken Fan Conventions.

Seriously! Tons of fun!
#12 @waliade Ali Wade - Microhumans

A wonderfully spaced-out science fiction movie, that drags you thru the air lock in 15 seconds flat.
#13 Ivan the Tolerable - 16 Pieces for 16 Pools.

This beautiful piece of work introduces you to world of one of the best and most independent sound tinkerers known to mankind. It is in the best sense music about music.
#14 @KieranMahon1 - A Gentle Meditation on the Collapse of Modern Civilisation

Again, a fitting title for this kind of music, illustrating the slow apocalypse and decay we probably are already in. A musician who is not heard often enough, DJST thinks.
#15 Plone - Puzzlewood

A playful, sometimes even childlike album reminiscent of a better world that did NOT come into being...and is still there, as a blueprint in the wooden cupboards of our soul.

Or so.
#16 @clubdessai Listening Center - Diaphanous Structures

A straightforward, sometimes even pushing record, with a slight touch of kraftwerkian absoluteness...and is it JSB's influence that sometimes is lurking around the corner?

A masterpiece of energetic electronics.
#17 @wonderfulbeasts - The Art Of Whisper

A platypus record, published by @WormholeWorld ... they take no prisoners, do they?

Atmospherical between Hauntology and Wacken Festival, it is electronics with a "lighter side of heavy metal" attitude.

Fun!
#18 @slowreels - Farewell Islands

A hissing, soft wrap of sound around your heart and mind, soothing, love-inspiring, throwing you on yourself again and again, and promising you a way out of it.

Cannot love it enough.
#19 Bhajan Bhoy - Bless Bless

Sounds from the so-called subcontinent amalgamated with a psychedelic guitar and electronics...

What could possibly go wrong?

Well, absolutely everything, of course.

But it DOES NOT!! It is a gem of an album, exciting and funny and cool.
#20 @SimmoMaz Simon Klee - Momentary Ilumination

An illuminating (wordplay intended), sharp and precise album, not without "swing", but deadly serious in a good way. Lightning above a wilderness.
#21 Gavin Miller - Bradford Telephone Exchange

The joys of Brutalism turned into sound. (With echoes of Pink Floyd or Dire Straits....I kid you not!!)

Fuck the Eighties.
#22 @cultofwedgeuk - Recovered

This jaw-dropping attempt by Pete Hacket to recover and re-enact songs that are dead as doornails (e.g. Trio---Da Da Da!!!)...

Words fail me...a must-have. No kidding.
#23 Robin Saville - Build A Diorama

Inspired, sometimes even dominated by birdsong this beautiful record builds an acoustical diorama around your estranged soul. Robin's focussed artisanship prevents it from becoming too romatical. The beauty of nature can kill you, you know.
#24 Dalham - Alderson Loop

An impressionist creating sound sculptures you can walk into and get lost. Mavelously dense and liberating at the same time.
#25 Bizarre Statue - The Polish Embassy - The Cane Field

Exciting, adventurous, and extremely versatile.

And lo!, the beginning of it sounds like Harry Partch... a pillar saint in Enclosure Three.

@woodford_halse is a really courageous label.
#26 @MoodTaeg - Exophora

Es summt und brummt. Ununterbrochen.

Yeah, some stuff can only be expressed in German. Standing on the shoulders of Neu and Kraftwerk, this is a great "kosmische" record.

Love it to pieces.
#27 @stephenjbuckley Polypores - Azure

A tough choice. Stephen has made one good album after the other this year. Some are rougher, all of them are top notch. This here made it due to my fascination with water,

Its sheer beauty is undescribable.
#28 @apta - Sun

Another electronical album that has acoustical music implemented, to great effect. It is as warm and life-giving as the sun itself. For pure joy while listening it is second to none in my list.
#29 @survey_channel - Along the Wind Spear.

Wine, Dance, Love...caught in a piece of amber, rotating in the setting sun...

sorry, it got away with me....

lovely album, bittersweet.
#30 dogs vs shadows -Sandskimma

Lee Pylon, the hardest working man in Nottingham, found his musical identity this year, churning out one corker after the other. This here - on @subexotic - is one of his best efforts, rounded, effectful and harsh like his Kites & Pylons show.
#31 Outside the Glitch - Cartography

This painfully claustrophobical album (again on @WormholeWorld is on the cutting edge of what electronical music can do. A major piece of art, nervegrinding, challenging and tough. Art in its highest form.

(Bite me for missing the CD!)
#32 @_clocolan - It's Not Too Early For Each Other

Radiated beauty, an adequate swan song to humankind. This unique album is painful to listen to.

A beautiful gem from Colin "Smaug" Morrison, who is hording treasures in @CastlesInSpace.

Thankfully he shares with us mortals.
#33 @forestrobots - After Geography

This record has a special place in my heart. I heard it the night after I got my Covid diagnosis and I was waiting for the second shoe to drop.

This blessed music gives you immense power and focus and beauty in dire moments.

Tested for you.
#34 Soul Flask - The Twilight Of Flight

A curious, funny and enchanting concept album on flying, that makes you want to invade an airport within 10 seconds, screaming and shouting "Pilot, take me anywhere, as long as we're flying..."
#35 @Chorchill - Nachtfisch

A night album, about a "Ruhrgebiet" legend. Chorchill's music (like his "Lichthupe" albums) is astonishing, clairvoyant, beautiful and razorblade sharp. And subtler than most anything I know.

Love also to @Strategictaper, for publishing the tape.
#36 Cpektir & Survey Channel - Myriagon Atlas

Survey Channel (again?..ah, well..my Enclosure, my rules!) and Cpektir have made a journey into space and allow us to take part. Fuck the gravity well!

Good for us. An album that starts fine and gets better from track to track.
#37 Field Lines Cartographer - The Spectral Isle

@ImpulseArray is on fire. This concept album is a masterclass in story telling via abstract sounds. Complete immersion is required and rewarded.

§1 His records this year are ace!
§2 @CastlesInSpace makes the beautifullest records
#38 Concretism - Dick and Stewart

The OST to the animation film by @richard_littler is a mean, nasty, jaunty and delightful master stroke of a genius.

The Premier Hauntology Denier of our age shows how nostalgia horror music really works!

Cheers!
#39 Bary Center - Guide Me Through The Hills Of Your Home

"Forbidden, aloof, terrifying" ... heard that before? Like the mountain described that way this tape is an acquired taste, eerie and harsh, and totally beautiful in that way.

@thirdkindtapes, well done and thank you.
#40 @rupertlally Marine Life

At gunpoint I'd choose this caming beauty as Rupert's best album this year, which might or might not be true. He never fails us, all his works this year have been marvelous...

As I mentioned above, DJST & water...there you go.
#41 @hellocubcub - Memory Bliss

This one came out of nowhere (for me) and blew me away in 10 seconds flat. A rich tapestry, made seemingly with an easy hand, of electronical goodies.

Complete burner. Looking forward to listening to his new record!!
#42 The Metamorph - Mechanismo

A short masterclass in creating science fictional atmosphere, rooted in that tradition, but no simple re-enacting. Breathing space galore, but the air is poisoned.

Great little CD (and he should try the longer forms!!)
#43 @GiantsDiscovery - Monuments

An epochal record, nothing less. A cathedral of sound showing us mortals the things to come... always something new to discover when listening, preferably with headphones.

"Wow" doesn't even begin to describe it...
#44 @MuteBranches -The Detective Is Dead

I may be wrong, but I think, that this quiet materpiece is seriously neglected. Although it belongs in every house. Eerie, weird, suspenseful, and creepy as hell.

A very fine new entry into the Archive of Enclosure Three.
#45 All my friends are ghosts - Strange Days

"...have found us", indeed. Made from 3 EPs from the plague ridden spring, now all in one with a few remixes. @musicisthedevil has published this force majeure (if that's the word), and it will still be spine chilling in days to come.
#46 @12hrfoundation - Six Twenty Negative

Much lauded - also from Enclosure Three - it may be repeated. Completely wonderful and sui generis, it is a pleasure to listen to this record, again and again.

It feels utterly wrong to call it "ear candy", but hey, there you go.
#47 @lfm_IDM - Watching

"Watching" - a good advice, when you think of the immense leap Edinburgh's Finest has taken. His new record shows him in splendid form. Layers of sound and his intermittent rhythmical extravaganzas make the rodents of Enclosure 23 dance like penguins.
#48 @CloudWaste and the Calf - Centre City 2.0

Yeah, I know...my rules...sue me.

Anyway, this record belongs in my list...the celebration of liminality with the means of electronical music works like a charm!

A labour of love.
#49 @Xqui - Microchasm

Again a work crossing boundaries, dancing and wobbling on the borderline of Audiodrama, Field Recording and Music. Immensely listenable, tons of fun, and intellectually enriching.

Mind the Chasms.
#50 @_Hawksmoor_ - Methods of Dreaming

Contrary to the artist's intention I find this record has the feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop, looking at the incoming asteroid thinking "Ups."

Anyway, a great, convincing piece of music from the house of @SpunOutSounds.
#51 @countersilence - Pathways

A master of tranquility, Colin Ventura publishes his melancholical masterpieces when they are ready.

Perfectly cut gems. Dreamy, but not soft.

No, perfection is NOT boring. Boring is boring!
#52 @Sunwarper & (sigh..again...) @cpektir - Lunar Ghosts

These two gents made THE moon record of the year. Bright, dusty, for lovers, and all that.

The collaborations in the scene are immensely enjoyable right now. Distance makes the ears go fonder?

Ah, go away. Cool record!
#53 @onepoint_two - θέρος

This here is a harsh mistress. Brittle to the breaking point, cutting, immersive, only intermittently tranquil...like a too hot summer day in Meteora, Greece.

Scorchio? Oh yes.
#54 @Tayusmusic - Synergism

This lasersharp, precise, cutting record is relatively new in Enclosure Three, and I know there are hidden depths I have not explored yet...but this is the beginning of a long friendship, I presume.

Cool, calm, focussed. Mind music from @werrafoxma.
#55 Listerner Depleted - You slept - I didn't

An album that feels like slowly falling asleep, against all odds. That doesn't sound like a compliment, but it is!!! Weird stuff from @MusicIsTheD3vil.

You listen, you let all the controls go. Beautiful, if also a bit chilling.
#56 Faten Kanaan - A Mythology Of Circles

This here is the odd one out.

A mixture of medieval style polyphonic singing, classical ambient music, acoustical and electrical instruments.

In short, a recipe for disaster!

It's one of most beautiful albums I have ever heard.
#57 @smercatante_ - The Foundations Of Eternal Sin

On the 17th of Dec. this record hit my doorstep, and shortly after that my mind.

A corker, with all, that makes electronical music so intriguing. Layer or sheets of sound, sublime rhythm, lust and threat and intelligence.
@lfm_IDM @KAAAATE22

That was the year that was. 2020.

Have I forgotten/neglected someone/something?

For sure!

Do I care?

Yes, I do! Sorry, guys.

Then again: My Enclosure, my rules!

I am DJ SpaceTerrapin.

Music was my first love, and it will be my last.
