Recently I posted I was looking for a role.

I accepted an offer within 2 weeks after starting the search.

How?

Let’s list some notes 👇🏼
⚪️ Local network

I called a IT recruitment company in 🇳🇱 basically telling them who I was and what role and type of company I was currently looking for.

They immediately linked me with some employers, and the next week I had three interviews at three different companies.
This is a major advantage because you are basically not competing with worldwide engineers (for remote positions) but just your national pool.

Unfortunately you can’t choose where you are born and this is highly correlated with your country of origin.
⚪️ Online presence

Having a technical blog to show really helped. One technical interview I entered, basically went super smooth because they had read my blog and scrapped 80% of their questions, which was.. awesome!
⚪️ Ability to sell yourself

A very, very big advantage. It you are a smooth and confident talker you have a major advantage during interviews.

I have had times where I slipped during interviews but I could compensate with proper communication, basically masking my mistake.
⚪️ Being passionate

This isn’t really something you can learn I guess.

I am extremely passionate about the stuff I’m working on or that I am talking about with people.

It really gets me genuinely excited when I’m having conversations with others who share this same passion.
Make sure to display this during the interviews.

Show your passion and excitement!! Don’t sit there like a emotionless potato.
⚪️ Having experience

This is definitely tricky, especially for junior engineers. I had projects and experience to show for, which really helps of course.

I have to note this because I am not trying to portray a false assessment here. This helped big time.
I think these are the most important points.

As you can see it’s a combination of factors.

Some are really out of ones hand, like the country someone grows up in or certain personality traits.

To everyone still looking for a job out there. I hope you find one ASAP 🏆❤️
