Clement Attlee presided over one of the most violent periods in British colonialism's history, sending troops to Malaya to put down striking rubber workers, deepening Britain's already vast violence in India and Ireland and aiding the French in suppressing the Vietnamese.

Paraded as socialists, the Attlee government presided over atrocities against the communist movement. The communists "liberated" by the British from Nazi camps were sent to British torture camps as one of the first moves of the "Cold War".

Labour were instrumental in reconstructing Britain as an imperialist power in the post-war period. Their colonial history - buried by the contemporary social democratic left whatever the cost - is fucking despicable. Ignoring it whilst saying you're a socialist is ghastly.
