[Thread] Which group does Jesus Christ belong to?
All Jewish lineage goes through the mother, except the Levite tribe, whose lineage goes through the father.

“Levite” means the children and progeny of Harun عليه السلام.
Maryam رضي الله عنها was a Levite. Her lineage goes through her father, not her mother (hence, the Qurʾan says Maryam bint ʿImran and not a lady’s name).
Maryam had a son, ʿIsa (Jesus) عليهما السلام. ʿIsa has no father. His lineage can’t go through Maryam in the strict sense like other Jewish tribes because Maryam is a Levite. And ʿIsa didn’t have a father to be attributed to.
Therefore, technically, ʿIsa عليه السلام doesn’t belong to any of the 12 Jewish tribes. This is why he never addressed his people as يا قوم (O my people), but يا بني إسرائيل (O children of Israel).
This gives rise to an interesting question: If ʿIsa عليه السلام did not technically belong to the Banu Isra’il, where does he belong?
If he can’t belong to the Levites nor to the remaining 11 Jewish tribes, he can only belong to a nation whose identity isn’t tribal in nature.
He belongs to the ummah of Muhammad ﷺ.
