Adolf Hitler died 75 years ago but his ideology is alive more now since the end of WW2. Nazism is springing up all over the world. And believers in democracy think they can oppose this with letters and going high. Trump/Hitler comparisons reached a high point in 2017 and then
suddenly declined. Media articles on this comparison have dropped yearly. Yet right-wing extremism has risen yearly since 2017. Those who cannot remember the past are likely to repeat it. But also, those who cannot forget the past are condemned to misunderstand it. What I
believe here is quite important. Trump wasn’t a mistake. He was a test. The fact that he has been voted out are lessons learned by the Republican Party in preparation for version 2. What matters here is not that Trump might be a fascist, is a fascist, it’s that his supporters
embraced fascist ideas. This is important because it highlights the Unites States vulnerability to fascism because it shares many of the weakness of the Weimar Republic. From the beginning, the banning of Muslims to the US was the kind of rhetoric that allowed Hitler to move
forward. We know that Reagan has used the phrase Make America Great Again, but the greatness came from Hitler and his message of Make Germany Great Again.
Both were egomaniacal narcissists with messianic complexes. The journalist Robert Dreyfuss worries about Trump’s fascism
when he wrote a piece for “The Nation” and imagined a future Trump that would mobilize gun rights supporters into a popular militia which would function as an equivalent of the Nazi paramilitary. And it’s important to remember that Hitler didn’t commit atrocities overnight. He
first had to get the Christians, Protestant and Catholic support, turn that into a German Christian nationalism where anyone who wasn’t of the Aryan race was an enemy and then slowly boiled the frog of fascism one degree at a time. The use of Romans 13, which has been used
over and over again to submit to government authority. It was used in slavery, in Nazi Germany and in America. There are two flaws in this method that Christians failed to understand.
1. The historical context and translation to the King James Version and
2. Being THE most
important. Jesus did not submit to corrupt government authority.
What we need to understand now is that Christian nationalism in America has been enabled. All future Republican Presidential candidates will be “pro-life.” The pro-life movement being a political movement started
In the early 1980’s to attain power in government. Fascist techniques are used to erode liberal democratic institutions. But here’s why many Americans don’t believe this movement is fascist. It doesn’t use obvious fascist symbols like the swastika, in America it is using the
Stars and Stripes of the American flag. “I’m a proud Christian and a proud American.” Fascism would always come back to America in the most innocent of guises.
