Here’s the thing that grates about the DFEs testing plan

I know it’s rushed, that facts on the ground are moving quickly. I understand that the government have prioritised keeping schools open, to allow parents back to work

It’s that everything is being done on the cheap!
We see £billions thrown at a failed track and trace app, only for schools forced into taking on a similar role, but for free

We see millions thrown at the appalling EdenRed system whilst schools do all the heavy lifting on supporting hungry families
Schools haven’t really been funded for all the extra washing facilities or cleaning, or hand wash. They’ve not had money to staff the online learning schools are now legally obliged to provide

Teachers are supposed to do their normal job & run parallel online learning
There’s not extra cash for schools needing to bring in supply teachers, just missives about keeping supply costs down

Already cash strapped schools have received barely any support

And now they are told they have to set up and run a testing program
DfE put out promotional blogs staring shiny new (free) schools with airy & empty sports halls and a set up that would require 63 people

Meanwhile, as the real world collides with ministers delusion, we’re told to rely on volunteers
It’s simple

If the government wants to run a test and trace scheme, they need to stump up the cash and pay for it!

If it’s going to be linked to schools, fine, but pay people to staff it

Testing people is a job, a dangerous job, we should at the v least offer wages to do it
