The repeated collapses of American cities is a very interesting topic

I think of it as Jefferson's curse

He said

"If Americans ever cluster in cities like they Europeans so, they'll become just we corrupt"
Since then, America has never been a country which shines for its cities

New York, Los Angeles, San Fransisco are all total shitholes

On the contrary, the draw of American lifestyle is in the big houses, great nature, vast spaces
This is because America was made to be the in anti-Europe

Here people are meant to own their domains as sovereign citizens unlike Europe where kings & lords ruled over many people with an iron fist

Jefferson truly is the ideological father of at least the main American culture
And so every some generation through a combination of corruption and violence Americans choose to flee the cities and instead forever look for greener pastures in sprawling suburbs, and exurbs and countryside
Take a city like Seattle for example

700 000 people live in Seattle proper, the other 3 million live in suburbs that consist of 1-2 story houses

And Seattle itself only has a few urban neighborhoods and the rest is single family housing

All American cities are like this
I often wondered why Americans had left their cities to rot and moved to the suburbs

It didn't make sense to me coming from Europe. It's inefficient and contrary to the old world

Now I know that it is partially due to the left which pulled the same bullshit in the 60s as now
Why live in the urban center where corrupt and insane politicians encourage criminals and junkies to terrorize you and then fleece you for taxes

When you can go live in your private little chateau in your private little forest

You can be your own little lord
And this was Jefferson's vision

If Americans were sovereign and self-sufficient they do not have to take the kind of grievances people had taken for thousands of years in Europe and Asia

They could simply tune out and farm
Things did get more complicated as we moved from agrarian to industrial economy because industrial infrastructure is expensive and has to be centralized

But this was overcome by the invention and mass production of automobiles

Americans kept living in their houses
And now again after a 30 year effort to revive the cities which the left ruined in the 60s

They have collapsed again and people are fleeing

This time it is enabled by remote work

And it is once again forced by the left who have unleashed criminals and terrorists
It's easy to use this as a recurring negative phenomenon but I now see it as positive and recurring trait of American culture and history

Because this way the resources to live well are distributed to places which would normally be backwards woods

Now they get an infusion
New lifestyles are created which have never existed anywhere before and would never be possible in cities

Yeah I know they want us to live in a box, eat the bugs, but this is not our DESTINY

This is not who we are meant to be. The character Jefferson instilled endures
