In his tweet, @mingoertzen says the government has announced $250,000 in funding for additional mental health supports for staff, students, and parents.

While I appreciate any funding that goes towards mental health, let's get a few things straight. https://twitter.com/mingoertzen/status/1340034064280137735
1) Wellness training and seminars cannot replace manageable workloads.

2) $250,000 is not a lot of money. For reference, it would cover the salaries of roughly 5 guidance counsellors for the rest of the school year
(To be clear, that isn't how the money is being spent.)
3) $100,000 of this money is devoted to "support for teachers and staff to address the social-emotional impacts COVID-19 within the school community."
This sum is spread across every school division in the province mind you.
This sounds to me like they are ignoring the fact that workloads are unmanageable, and instead offering mental health training.
Then they are expecting teachers and staff to support the mental health of students, without alleviating workloads to help us be successful.
I will do what I can to support my students' well-being.

But I don't appreciate when the minister of education throws us crumbs and then acts like he's giving us a gift.
Interestingly, they also mention $400,000 that is being spent on the Remote Learning Centre for student services clinicians.

I'd really like to have more transparency for how that is all going to work too.
Shoot, I got the first number wrong.
It wasn't $250,000.
It was $225,000.
Peanuts.
