there's a lot to say here, but for one Quilty has done a good job here and he should be commended, but im gonna make a thread on various coinciding scenarios shortly, as well as touch on the situation inside afghanistan with the NDS, which is the bastard child of the CIA. https://twitter.com/democracynow/status/1339933462598447110
weve all pitched this story 100xs. definitely pitched it to Intercept, i dont want to make a list but i could name 5 afghan journos right now, but we had dozens and dozens of deaths with people contacting me telling me it was NDS/CIA, then blaming ISKP or Taliban, sometimes both.
Happened everywhere, I was mostly documenting Nangarhar with @MohsinZMomand but we has stories from all over - definitely inside Wardak, my first cousins are from there and their entire village was flattened in these attacks over time.
Anyhow, first issue: All fucking Afghan journalists have pitched this exact same story, did not get supported and when they do get supported its merely a contact and "rhetorical" pickmeups instead of idk, maybe some fucking help - instead people make their name on our ppls deaths
Here's your example; Quily hasnt a co-author, however there are at least a dozen Afghans who did most this work for him, but his adventure and growth as courageous journalist is also ... the story, and thats why @democracynow is a hotmess of ignoring Afghans, we can ask Suraia.
Do I need to remind people how many afghan journalists die all the time, so dont give me some sht about protecting lives Quilty - and if you supported Afghans as you claim, you'd always have one co-authoring but dundundun "youve centered yourself" -shocker https://twitter.com/TOLOnews/status/1336877464325337091
Its disingenuous at best that Quilty does not have an Afghan co-author, and this practice needs to stop or we'll just simply boot these type of people out the country, its not hard to do that in a place like afghanistan.
I bring this up cause Quilty also made sure to bring it up

In this piece published on March 29, 2019 Quilty writes a pretty passionate piece about his work in Afghanistan, and this was pretty much due to the fact I was publishing this piece the very next day and likely him and Sune Engles would highlighted https://www.mangalmedia.net/english//why-im-writing-about-white-people-instead-of-a-us-military-war-crime
instead i cut that section due to the damage it could cause a fellow afghan journalist, who promptly told Quilty who then promptly wrote this to soften any impending blows, as we learn to do after a while - this was published a single day before my piece https://www.everydayprojects.org/repicture/2018/3/29/working-around-reductionism-in-afghanistan
just like ive mentioned this @mangal_media piece, afghans are also reinforcing white supremacy back by not challenging the structures of white supremacy inside afghan media, ngos, etc while enjoying access to their network and the fine dinings.
Aside from both the Intercept and DemocacyNow constantly going over afghan journos, something we'd expect supposedly "anti-racist" and "progresssive" media to not do because the explicitly market themselves as not doing that sht, this is the norm everywhere else.
Though this is starting to change, there is a mad-dash for media, journalists, ngos, aid workers/humanitarians to recognize a very apparent radical change through the very difficult and dangerous work of radicals in this battle in this revolutionary moment.
So while they ride this wave on our backs, we are making clear that you will open doors for our youth or we'll just fkn present years of reciepts on you and take you down.
if you dont, we'll take everything. i can say this because i dont care about being published in msm anymore

we all make mistakes, i fk up interviews all the time, but that also happened after i was tortured, jailed, drugged, nearly killed a bunch of time for doing my fucking job as a journalist and then watching white people publish stories instead of afghans who live the consequences.
The only person in media that sat with me and tried to make sure we'd be successful was @shereenaqazi (owe her an apology for being a jerk btw, sorry qazi sahib!)
Next, Ill engage whats happenig with NDS/CIA, reporting on these revelations. But let this do its thing for few mis.
