So for anyone confused, #carp is a benign manual computer virus that hinges on human social participation. It hijacked the corporate “tweet our brand identity now”, to be smthing completely nonprofitable. If you click the button, it prepopulates itself; ready for you to hit send.
And apparently once you do, it changes every button to a link to the wiki page, further obfuscating things
Before and after. Interesting!!!
An aside: I love PokĂ©mon!! Literally caught a shiny Mareep ten minutes ago!! đŸ„șđŸ˜đŸŒžđŸ„°đŸ’• https://twitter.com/favoritemewart/status/1340128525387526146
Also, “computer virus” should be in quotes; its NOT an actual computer virus, just copies itself like one, if people manually participate.
As more of these pop up, beware that you don’t know what the “after” page is until you post your new tweet. It’s possible someone might make one with offensive images that only pop up after you gave your followers access to click the button themselves.
Here’s an example of a new one with the same mechanic. This one just says “thank you” afterwards. Others could say other things with other images, or lead to other websites. https://twitter.com/favoritemewart/status/1340134785134563328
