Always cringe a little when managers say most people aren’t “up to the challenge” of a management job.
As if it was purely a matter of will or effort. Or some other nonsense.
Leaping into any new role is hard and will often fail without a strong support system.

This “manager hero” perspective is a signal that the company doesn’t adequately support people moving into management roles.
Which, ironically, are often the same companies that only have meaningful career paths through management.
