The reason why Christmas became a second Valentine's Day in S Korea is because during the dictatorship era, there was a daily curfew and no one could be outside past midnight. Christmas Eve was one of the few days that had no curfew, which allowed young people to date at night.
As a churchgoer, I would prefer that Christmas would revert to its origin and be strictly a religious holiday - which means I dislike the way Christmas is in both US and in S Korea. But that's solely my preference, and I understand why things today are the way they are.
I don't like the way commercialized "joy" is shoved into my face every December, and I definitely don't like being pressured to buy more crap. But the most I'll do is maybe kvetch on twitter, because I try not to be a dick about how other people are having a good time.
