There’s a part in Surah Kahf that we read over and never ponder. Khidr (AS) destroys and damages a boat which belonged to a poor family who needed it for their livelihood, to fish, to travel and maybe to even live in it.
Musa (AS) is confused as to why Khidr (AS) did this and asks him why he would do such a thing. What did the poor ever do to him for him to treat them in such a harsh way?
Put yourself in those poor families shoes. Imagine you are them with a boat and it gets destroyed. You wonder to Allah, why?
I am in need of this promotion, this grade, this job, this spouse. I am in need of this dua being answered. How can you destroy my boat Allah? Why not take the boat of the ungrateful? Did I not worship you enough? Did I not wake up for fajr? Did I not fast?
But Musa (AS) didn’t know there was an oppressive king and if the boat hadn’t been destroyed, the king would have taken it leaving no means of sustenance for the poor family.
Allah knew a broken boat wouldn’t be any use to the king so he would have not been interested in this and so the poor family could fix the boat and use it again.
Your boat may also be broken. It might not make sense to you right now. You cannot see the oppressive king and you cannot see what Allah is protecting you from.
All you can see is what is broken in front of you and all the effort it will take to move forward, to move on from this calamity. But know that Allah will help you fix it. He will help you find a way.
So, if the one you wanted to marry was taken away from you, know that it’s because Allah knows what would have happened years down the line, and maybe it wasn’t the right person or the right time.
If the grades didn’t happen the way you wished, know that it may be Allah protecting your imaan. Maybe the grade would’ve lead you to a place, where your imaan would fall and you wouldn’t have enough support to get back up.
Maybe the job you wanted would’ve lead you into a person you weren’t meant to become. Maybe there’s another job designed for you that will enable you to pray your sunnahs with ease and give you more barakat.
Moral of the story is look beyond the broken boat. Allah loves you and He will always take care of you. Have sabr. Allah wouldn’t put you through it if you weren’t capable.
