Let’s start with a categorization:
The Swiffer Sweeper is not a broom substitute.
It is a dust mop with disposable refills.
You shouldn’t use it to sweep up Cheerios or broken glass, but to capture dust and other remnants left behind after you’ve swept with a broom.

What’s so bad about the Swiffer Sweeper?
Cost-efficiency & cleaning efficiency.
• We used 3 Swiffer sheets to clean 500 sq ft of an apartment
• A dust mop handled the same mess twice (& only needed to be washed every 2 weeks).

Keeping that place Swiffer-ed translates to:
• 156 Swiffer sheets every year, or more than three 48-sheet packs.
• For around the same price as restocking Swiffer sheets, you can get about 4 years of life out of our reusable dust mop pick.

Merry Maids told us it doesn’t use Swiffer—or any other disposable cleaning product—bc costs just don’t add up:
“The expense of disposable products is not profitable for home cleaning services & may be a drain for homeowners as constant replacement is necessary."

Beyond costs, the Swiffer just wasn't as effective at cleaning as the our top pick, the O-Cedar dust mop
•The Swiffer is great at picking up dust, dirt, & cat hair, but it can’t get into cracks or corners as well
•The O-Cedar mop's head is also ~2x the width of the Swiffer’s

tl;dr A Swiffer Sweeper isn't necessarily bad.
There are just many other great options that are:
• reusable instead of disposable
• easier on your wallet
• just as great—if not better—at keeping your home squeaky clean
