It's been such a crazy year that I missed the ten year anniversary a couple of weeks back of the suicide attempt that nearly claimed my life. It's been an eventful decade, but most importantly one filled with growth, accomplishment and happiness that I denied was ever possible.
There's a lesson in that. When people say "It will get better," it often sounds trite and shallow. But there is a great deal of truth to it. That doesn't mean the road is easy, but depression takes away the hope that makes it possible to seek and find that joy.
I am grateful I didn't endure my struggle in a year like this, which can only exacerbate problems that are all too real for people dealing with mental illness. I hope and pray all those in need can reach out for help. If you don't know where to start, my DMs are open.
