I grew up in a household where my dad would nail a squirrel to a tree and joke about taking its clothes off while smoothly skinning it out of its fur. Most of the food on our table was grown, raised, foraged, and/or hunted. I heard stories of slitting someone's throat and dumping
...them in the river for stealing from their traps. I've watched my grandpa settle a rifle on his shoulder and go to deal with trespassers. Hell, I've watched my dad do the same to serve an eviction and watched my mom follow him out the door to make sure he didn't kill them as
..she complained about him not thinking things through. I've had both of my parents whisper scream at me that I better keep my fucking mouth shut or dad would go to jail. I still can't remember what he did. In my little head, I willed myself to forget.

And, yet, I'm optimistic.
The world is changing. Change is often a violent thing. You got to fully destroy the previous foundation to rebuild a better foundation, a stronger foundation.

Some of you won't survive that change.
Some of you can't handle going with less so everybody can have some. Some of you won't choose the better option for the environment so that our world doesn't burn. But, some of us are ready for a change. Some of us have been molded our entire lives to survive, to have empathy,
... and to know how to defend those who can't. I'm optimistic because I grew up in an environment that taught me if I hit a man I should expect to get hit back and that didn't stop me. I learned to fight smarter and harder.
What I'm saying is, when I issue positivity to a friend or loved one, I do so because they're one of mine, and if I've claimed you, the world better fuck right the hell off because I will use the vast knowledge I've acquired to make sure you are well and that the fuck who caused
... your problems isn't.

This rant brought to you by people who seem to get erections from calling people fake for giving other folks comfort. It's okay that you're a pessimist. You won't survive the new world. They'll likely not have your Starbucks or that fancy new cheese you
...dig so much. But, if you shut your pie hole and stop congratulating yourself for declaring the rest of humanity trivial, maybe we'll let you sit by our fire while we tell ghost stories of standing in lines and horror-filled places like the dmv.
