11 Key Highlights from Manchester United’s 3-2 Win over SHU in the Premier League: the good, the bad and the ugly.
1. Error.
A. Maguire here passes back to Dean. Why? Because as a *right footed* LCB he, naturally, closes off the angle of better options.
B. Dean has passing options — but dwells on the ball: unaware of the press. Inexperience passing short.
C. Rushes, doesn’t collect. Poor.

2. Back Three.
MUN struggled with SHU’s press at the early minutes — which forced the error of the goal conceded.
MUN, as usual, had Matic drop deep into the defensive line. This stretched SHU’s first line of press that closed down Pogba & created spaces to progress the ball.

3. Runs.
MUN had a clear plan to exploit SHU’s high line with our forwards tasked on making runs: Bruno, Rashford and Martial — and finding them with a through/long ball.
MUN were offside multiple times: need to improve the timing of the runs but nice to see us making more.

4. Organization.
Matic dispossessed. SHU now have space to run into between our split CB’s. Maguire is too pushed forward.
Telles loses his runner here. As AWB shifts to cover his man, Mason and Pogba should track back & cover.
Our defense struggles to organize in transitions.

5. Equalizer.
Rashford’s bending run here was fantastic. As soon as Lindelof receives — he delays slightly then goes in front of the CB.
His touch was excellent: allowed him to control the ball and finish well.

6. Team Sequence.
All starts with Pogba’s switch. A quick string of passes allow MUN to interchange — with AWB inverted, dragging a player.
This created space which Pogba was running into, recognizing the pass before he receives. Tony’s run/touch forces the keeper to rush out.

7. Decision Making.
An excellent interception from Pogba was a catalyst to this dangerous transition.
Martial carries the ball, tricks the defender.
Marcus chooses to take a difficult shot rather than pass to Mason — his instinct is *always* to shoot.

8. Ball Carrying.
Telles: one to look for the forward pass.
Instead of running into traffic like he did earlier, he recognizes the space made by Martial’s run here. He bypasses 4 players. Mason’s instinct again to shoot rather than pass: poor choice.

9. Counter Attack.
A. Pogba intercepts — notice how his instinct is to always use his physicality to shield the ball.
B. Marcus begins his run — allowing him to collect quickly after the foul.
C. Martial asks for the ball. Good link-up.

10. From The Back.
MUN’s build up play here was excellent — quick, incisive passes in the minimum number of touches that allowed the bypass of SHU’s press.
Martial’s run down the middle is *exactly* what we want to see more of: challenging the backline.
