Today I read the bible, Ephesians chapter 5.

This chapter talks about several things: fornication and drunkenness. Albeit, it’s popular for its verses 22-23 which talk about wives submitting to their husbands, and husbands being the head.

I noticed something interesting.
Verses 23 & 24 further reiterate wives submitting. Getting to 25, the chapter then turns to the husbands. It tells them to love their wives as Christ loved the church, and gave himself for it.

Now the interesting part.
Verses 26 down to 31 amplifies the type of love expected of the husbands for their wives, just like Jesus loved the church.

If you are familiar with the life of Jesus, you’d know how much of a servant he was. He washed the feet of his disciples.
Jesus went as far as giving his life for the church.

The Bible in Ephesians chapter 5, likened the husbands to Jesus and tells them to serve their wives, and lay down their lives for them if need be.

The Bible states that after marriage, the man and the woman become one.
Hence when the husband doesn’t love the wife, he doesn’t love himself. When he hates the wife and abuses her, he hates himself.

So when a wife is submissive, the husband is expected to do more than submit, he should be ready to die for her.
My worry now is why so many sermons stop at women submitting and not men dying for their wives and family.

Why so much emphasis on being an obedient wife and very little on being a sacrificial man?
3 verses in the chapter focus on the wives. Whereas, 7 verses focus on the husbands.

The chapter is clearly very interested in the action of the man in the home.

Why then are we holding our men to much lower standards?
