COVID-19 cases are surging across the country, protections are expiring, and people are struggling. Our message is clear: We need #CovidReliefNow. But the Senate is prioritizing corporate interests. This is unacceptable. #NoCorporateImmunity
Since the earliest days of the pandemic, we’ve seen what happens when corporations don’t prioritize health and safety: workers endure unsafe conditions without PPE or access to healthcare. Without COVID-19 protections, just going to work can be fatal. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/cbs-news-investigation-finds-milwaukee-plant-employee-returned-to-work-with-covid-19-and-died/
Corporate immunity threatens workers health, safety, and civil rights. These laws would relieve corporations of liability in lawsuits that “allege injury or death” caused by unsafe working conditions and their negligence. https://www.huntonak.com/en/covid-19-tracker.html
Corporate immunity would mean doctors and nurses in overflowing hospitals with inadequate PPE have no legal recourse. Workers who get sick or die because their employers’ didn’t disclose COVID-19 cases or exposure would not be able to hold them accountable.
With dwindling health and safety measures, and no oversight, workers are in danger and corporations have free reign. Without liability or consequence, how can we trust corporations to protect workers?
The clock is ticking, and people are struggling. Lives are at stake. Our message is clear: we need #CovidReliefNow and #NoCorporateImmunity. Call your senators to demand it:
